About

Barbara Doepke Cochran

Growing up in Evanston, Illinois, Barb’s sole passion and love was art. She was exposed to drawing and painting classes from a very young age. She was always encouraged and supported by a very creative and artistic mother and countless teachers and artists who taught her along the way.

She graduated from Principia College as an art major. Upon graduation she was able to tour Europe, painting and studying art history. She continued her art education at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois.

After participating in many art shows and exhibiting in art galleries, she pursued a career in graphic design. Barb worked at WLS –TV in Chicago as a graphic artist, providing artwork and design for news shows, specials, and was even awarded a Chicago Emmy for an animated film.

After many years of graphic work she joyously spent the next major part of her life as a mom, raising four children.  She continued doing graphic work throughout those years for businesses, schools, church and garden club.

As her youngest child went off to college, she got back to her greatest love, painting. She and her husband moved from Chicago to Florida to spend the winter months. They have a farm in Michigan, where in the summer, they grow apples, peaches, vegetables and flowers.  Barb has an art studio at both locations where she is currently painting in oils and getting inspiration from such beautiful places as Boca Grande, FL, Rainy Lake, Ontario Canada and Leelanau County, Michigan.
